# Reduce production line errors, stoppages, and supervision with Cradle app
## OEM Production Line managers and supervisors can use Cradle Programmer app to keep SCS Controller installations moving, catch bad data, and reduce time spent on detailed oversight.
**Before you start**
When configuring an SCS Controller on a production line:
- Always select a parameter file. If none is selected, the controller resets to AoFrio defaults and its lifetime data is cleared.
- Use batch mode for generic builds only. Batch mode programs up to four controllers at once, but it can't write unique IDs such as asset number or equipment serial.
- Use a hand scanner in keyboard-entry mode with carriage return turned on.
- Prepare and release parameter files, model types and owner details **in advance** (with Lab app and the OEM Dashboard app) before starting production.
- Take care with the Export function. Exporting overwrites all lookup file and configuration file settings saved in the cloud.

### 10 ways to improve your production line process with Cradle app
These approaches fall into three main categories: Fewer stoppages, fewer errors, and less supervision:
### Fewer stoppages
**1. Hands-free start and reset -** With Cradle Programmer, your team can start programming controllers as soon as an operator seats a controller in the cradle. When they remove it, the cradle resets for the next unit. Nobody has to press start or clear the screen, so there's no hold-up between units.
**2. Short, predictable cycle times -** Programming without firmware typically takes less than 30 seconds per controller. With a firmware update it takes about 50–60 seconds. On SCS 800, a microcontroller is only rewritten if its firmware differs from the target, so your team doesn't lose time on units that are already up to date.
**3. Keep programming when the network drops -** The Cradle Programmer keeps working offline using locally saved files and queues the records until the connection is back. A lost connection doesn't stop the line. An unsent records counter shows the queue, and you can switch on a warning when it passes 100 records. Reconnect regularly, because each record takes about 2–3 seconds to sync.

### Fewer errors
**4. Scan to pick the right configuration** - Each configuration file bundles the firmware, parameters, IDs and model for one build. Print a barcode for each configuration, and operators can scan it rather than choosing from a drop-down list. That removes the risk of an operator picking the wrong configuration at a model changeover. Scan configuration barcodes with no controller in the cradle.
**5. Validate barcodes before they're saved -** Set validation rules for each scanned field, such as a required prefix or length. You can also set start and end positions to pull the right value out of a longer code. A label that doesn't match is rejected at the station, so it doesn't end up in the cooler's record. You can also require an order reference scan for every controller or only when the configuration changes.
**6. Clear pass/fail signals -** Turn on the full-screen option so operators see a green screen for a good scan and a red screen for a read error or failed validation, with the cause shown. Operators can see the result from across the station, and they know what to fix without calling you over.
**7. Duplicate asset number warnings** - The Cradle Programmer warns when an asset number has already been used. That stops two coolers being given the same identity, which causes problems for the customer later. The full check needs an internet connection. Offline, it only checks records already saved on that PC.

### Less supervision
**8. Lock settings with a supervisor password -** Set a supervisor password so operators can only reach the programming screens. Settings and configuration changes stay locked until the password is entered. Setting the app to **Run** also locks the other tabs, so nobody changes a setting halfway through a run. If the password is forgotten, your AoFrio representative can reset it.
**9. You approve duplicates, not the operator -** A duplicate asset number should only be used when a faulty controller is being replaced. Approving one needs a code shown on screen or the supervisor password, so you decide when an identity is reused. That keeps rework from creating duplicate or wrong identities.
**10. Fix cooler records without reprogramming -** Use the **Update Cooler** function to add or correct equipment data on the server after programming, without touching the controller. A typo in a serial or asset number doesn't have to send the unit back to the cradle. Options include rejecting unknown serials and asking for confirmation before saving.
