Cancel defrost on a cooler with an installed SCS 500/600 Controller

How to use the buttons on the front of the SCS 500/600 Controller or Field app to turn off a defrost in your cooler.

Turn off a defrost manually using the display

NOTE: In some SCS Controllers, the manual override steps below may be locked or the hardware settings may prohibit this. Some controllers will have defrost cycles that are configured to stop automatically based on time or temperature targets.

  1. defrost_iconLocate the SCS Controller on your cooler. If the cooler is in defrost mode, the defrost indicator (a 'snowflake' pictured right) will be lit up.
  2. Press the ‘Left’ (or ‘Back’) button for several seconds to return to Normal Mode. The display on the SCS should now be “nor”

TIP: Certain controller models also use the ‘Left’ button for Night Mode. When you press the ‘Left’ button, make sure the SCS display shows “nor” and that the defrost indicator light has turned turn off.

Turn off defrost permanently with Field app

To disable defrost mode (so it won’t run again):

  1. Open Field app and connect to the cooler.
  2. From the main menu, choose EDIT PARAMETERS
  3. Select Defrost from the dropdown list and either:
  • Click on Defrost type (dtP) and set to 0 to disable defrost completely, or
  • Click on Defrost initiation temperature (dIt) and set to disabled status and click on Maximum defrost interval (dEI) and set to a very large value. This combination of settings prevents automatic entry into defrost.

More advanced defrost settings

You can also use Field app to set up a ‘running defrost’ that will stop when either:

  • Maximum defrost cycle time (dCt) expires, or
  • Defrost termination temperature (dtt) is reached

To shorten how long the cooler spends in defrost mode, you can lower the value for one or both.

After the defrost itself ends:

  • The cooler may remain in Passive dripping time (dPt), then
  • Optionally Active dripping time (dAt).

Use Field app to set dPt = 0 and dAt = 0 if you wish to remove these additional steps (0 = disabled).
