FW Version 4028.3

22 May 2025

  • Previous Version - FW-4027.1
  • Upgrade action required: Manual update using Cradle, Field or Lab app
  • Upgrade importance: Low

Release notes

FW 4028.3 release introduces several new features for asset owners to disable coolers in their fleet. ‘Long touch’ Power On/Off offers instant ‘in person’ cooler power control, while instant or delayed disabling provides more flexibility and control over the cooler’s operation.

1. ‘Long Touch’ Power On/Off

You can now turn off the power for your cooler instantly by pressing the left and right buttons on the SCS Controller simultaneously for 2 seconds.

Turn the power off:

  • Turns off all outputs connected to the SCS (i.e., compressor, fans, lights)
  • Displays OFF on the SCS display
  • Displays the alarm icon on the LED display
  • Logs an ALR48 alarm in the cooler’s event logs (viewable via AoFrio’s software applications)

    Turn the power back on:
Press both the left and right buttons at the same time and hold for at least 2 seconds. A power cycle also reverts the cooler back to normal operation.

NOTE: This feature is disabled by default but can be enabled through a JSON/parameter file update. It will then appear as a parameter that can be switched on by the asset owner.

    2. Delayed and Instant Disable*

    a) Delayed

Delayed Disable lets you switch off the cooler either with field app or remotely via Gateway or Track app* with a time delay after the disable is triggered.

    • How it works:
      • Functions similarly to the current disable cooler method used in Field app:
        • Compressor is turned off

        • Lights remain on

        • Activation is delayed by a random interval after the command is received by the SCS.

          • The delay is a random number of minutes between MIN_Minutes and MAX_Minutes parameters (user-configurable).

          • Default values for MIN and MAX are to be determined (TBD).

        • Enabling (re-enabling) the cooler occurs immediately (no delay).

        • The cooler does NOT re-enable on reboot.

    b) Instant

Instant Disable is a new feature that lets you switch off the cooler immediately either with Field app or remotely via Gateway or Track app*.

    • How it works:
        • Turns off all outputs (compressor, fans, lights)
          • The LCD displays “Hd” while in this state

          • The disable action happens instantly when the command is received

          • A power cycle will NOT resume normal operation

          • In this state, no outputs (compressor, fans, lights) will be active

These new disable options provide more nuanced control for asset owners, letting them respond in a way appropriate to different cooler, maintenance, and site issues.

    * The Delayed and Instant Disable features require Field app version 5.36 or later when performing locally triggered Disable, or Track app version 6.6 and Track SDK 4.4.4 (Android only) when disabling coolers remotely.

    FW Version 4026.1

    1 Oct 2024

    • Previous Version - FW-4024
    • Upgrade action required: Manual update using Cradle, Field or Lab app
    • Upgrade importance: Low

    Release notes

FW-4026 builds up on the 4024 release. This release has been customised to allow the use of the PIR sensor board without any dropouts due to the VSC.

The release includes the following new changes:

    • OFF frequency for the compressor was changed to 40Hz instead of 0hz. This allows the PIR sensor board to stay ON when compressor is OFF.
    • Code improvements to disable redundant alarm codes and optimise the display button function.

    FW Version 4027.1

    10 Dec 2024

    • Previous Version - FW-4026.7
    • Upgrade action required: Manual update using Cradle, Field or Lab app
    • Upgrade importance: Medium

    Release notes

FW4027.1 is an improvement on 4026 that provides compressor protection for upright freezers.

    It includes:

    • Parameters to set a waiting time before the compressor is turned ON during hot-gas defrost.
    • Improvements to our data management and event logs.

    FW Version 4024

    21 Feb 2024
    • Previous Version - FW-4020
    • Upgrade action required: Manual update using Cradle, Field or Lab app
    • Upgrade importance: Low
    Release notes
This new FW-4024 includes everything that was recently released with FW-4020, plus the support of three new key features:
    • Energy Efficiency and Variable Speed Compressor (VSC)
This new VSC feature provides frequency based speed controls for supported Variable Speed Compressors. Sensor data is used by the SCS Controller to make precise adjustments to compressor speed, optimizing energy efficiency and performance based on varying operational requirements.
      • Direct PWM frequency control of the Compressor Inverter from SCS Controller port AD4
      • Configuration of Minimum, Maximum and Stop Frequencies for the compressor
      • Configuration allowing the accurate Energy measurement of systems with an installed VSC
      • Extended Evaporator Fan controls to allow timed on/off cycles when variable speed fan control is enabled.
      • More detail is available in the manual - Variable speed control - compressors (#WT9091_i4) (PDF)
    • Alarms External Indication
This feature enhances the controller's ability to communicate to critical information and adds an extra layer of situational awareness to your system.
      • Alarms can be configured to be output visually/audibly by the connection of a light and/or a buzzer to the SCS, or through the cooler's internal LED lighting.
      • A new Missing Tracking alarm to indicate when the SCS Controller has not connected to any of the AoFrio Track, Field or Lab apps for more than the defined time.
      • More detail is available in the manual - Alarms external indications (#WT9838_i1) (PDF)
    • Hot Cabinet Control
FW-4024 introduces a BETA release that offers basic support for using SCS as a controller in thermostatic heating applications.

App Support - Some of these new features are not yet supported by AoFrio apps. If you would like to try the features that do not yet have app support, please contact your AoFrio customer support representative.

    FW Version 4020

    • 15 Feb 2024
    • Previous Version - Various
    • Upgrade action required: Manual update using Cradle, Field or Lab app
    • Upgrade importance: Medium - determined by customer
    Release notes
This firmware release merges all previous versions of SCS Controller firmware into this one new FW-4020 version. It also implements changes to Controller parameters, including the introduction of a new parameter “Install Type” and other configuration options which are described in detail in the Release Summary:FW-4020 Firmware update document.

FW-4020 also introduces a new firmware file format which packages all of the firmware components required in a release together into a .zip file. In conjunction with new AoFrio app releases this new file packaging improves the firmware update process and simplifies all future AoFrio SCS controller firmware updates.

    New features and improvements
    • Single merged firmware package file that works on old and new version SCS Controllers
    • Install Type parameter to switch between different operating logic, display different app visuals and adjust parameter visibility or write-ability
    • Configurable display options during Defrost
    • Improved temperature accuracy below -20 deg C
    • Improved Defrost control logic and configuration
    • Improved integration and functionality between the firmware and supporting AoFrio apps
    Bug fixes
    • General bug fixes and improvements
    • Please review the FW-4020 summary at Release Summary:FW-4020 Firmware update and contact your AoFrio customer support representative if you have any questions.
    • New versions of Cradle and Lab apps that support FW-4020 are now available. A Field app update that supports FW-4020 will be released soon.
    • To obtain access to FW-4020 please contact your AoFrio customer support representative and discuss the options available.

Note: This new FW-4020 firmware will come on new SCS Controllers manufactured by AoFrio starting from approximately April 2024.
