# Upgrade a cooler from an SCS 600 and Gateway to an SCS 800
## Upgrade to the SCS 800 to control and connect your cooler with one device, while preserving its existing Asset ID, address and data history.
### **Overview**
The SCS 800 controls the cooler and uploads its data over its own built-in cellular connection (LTE Cat M1 / Cat 1 bis). It replaces both the SCS 600 and the separate Gateway. This page gives the high-level steps for the upgrade, then what a Hardware Installer and a Fleet Manager each need to consider.
The Bluetooth link between Controller and Gateway goes away, leaving one device to mount, power and maintain instead of two. The SCS 800 also adds Wi-Fi, BLE 5.4 and a backup battery.

### **Quick steps**
The upgrade is a like-for-like swap at the cooler: one SCS 800 goes in, and the SCS 600 and the Gateway come out. The cooler keeps its Asset ID and install address. Detailed SCS 800 installation instructions are available from your AoFrio Customer Success Manager.
1. **Plan the upgrade.** Confirm the cooler model is approved for the SCS 800, that an SCS 800 parameter file exists for it, and that there is cellular coverage at the site.
2. **Record the current set-up.** Connect to the SCS 600 in Field app. Note the Asset ID, install address, cooler owner, parameter file and Gateway serial number. Take photos of the existing installation.
3. **Isolate power and remove the old hardware.** Turn off and isolate the cooler's power. Remove the Gateway and its AC lead, then remove the SCS 600 and label its wiring.
4. **Mount and wire the SCS 800.** Fit it in the cooler, then connect the probes, loads and 90–240 Vac supply following the SCS 800 instructions from AoFrio.
5. **Power on and commission.** In Field app, load the SCS 800 parameter file and enter the same Asset ID, install address and owner as before.
6. **Verify.** Confirm the cooler is cooling, the SCS 800 is connected over cellular, and data is updating in AoFrio software at the right address.
7. **Retire the old devices.** Mark the SCS 600 and Gateway as removed so they stop reporting against the asset. Return or recycle them as agreed with AoFrio.

### **Role specific details**
**Hardware Installer -** needs to leave the cooler cooling, connected and recognised as the same asset, all in one visit. Check these before and during the installation.

| **Wiring and connectors** | The SCS 800 uses Faston and STOCKO connectors and has its own input and output layout: 5 sensor inputs, 2 relays, 2 triacs, 3 LED PWM outputs and VSC control. | Label every SCS 600 wire before you disconnect it. Get the SCS 800 wiring diagram for this cooler model from AoFrio. Confirm the existing probes are supported. |
| **Placement for cellular** | The Gateway used to sit high in the cooler for signal. The SCS 800 now does the cellular uploading itself. | Check signal at the planned position. Avoid metal panels in front of it. If signal is weak, ask AoFrio before you move the controller. |
| **Asset continuity** | A new Asset ID or address creates a "new" cooler and breaks the history. | Record the Asset ID and install address from the SCS 600 first. Re-enter them exactly on the SCS 800. |
| **Old hardware** | A Gateway left powered in the cooler may keep reporting against the asset. | Remove the Gateway and its AC lead completely. Make the circuit safe. Bag and label both old devices for return. |

**Fleet Manager -** decides which coolers move first and to keep the data unbroken while they move. Check the following before you schedule installs.

| **Which coolers first** | Moving the whole fleet at once is rarely practical. | Start with coolers that have weak Gateway coverage, missing data, or are due a service visit anyway. Pilot a small group before rolling out further. |
| **Data continuity** | Reports, alerts and history are tied to the Asset ID. | Make sure installers keep each cooler's existing Asset ID and install address. Agree with AoFrio how history from the SCS 600 and Gateway shows against the new controller. |
| **A gap during the swap** | The cooler is off and not reporting while the hardware is changed. | Expect a short gap in data on install day. Tell anyone who watches alerts so it isn't treated as a fault. |
| **Retiring Gateways** | Each removed Gateway has a cellular connection and is still listed in your account. | Agree with AoFrio how removed Gateways are deactivated and returned, and remove them from your active device lists. |
| **Parameter files and settings** | The SCS 800 needs its own parameter file for each cooler model. | Confirm the setpoints and settings you use today are carried into the SCS 800 file before installs start. |
