Troubleshooting connection issues for the LoRaWAN Sensor
Troubleshoot connection issues between a LoRaWAN Sensor and the iQ platform.
- Power and installation
- Sensor activation
- Network coverage
- Gateway connectivity
- Platform configuration
Before you start
Make sure:
-
The sensor is correctly installed in the cooler.
-
The sensor has power (battery is installed and not depleted).
-
A LoRaWAN Gateway is installed and powered nearby.
Troubleshooting steps
1. Check sensor power and status
What to check:
- Is the sensor powered on?
- Is the battery correctly installed?
What to do:
- Remove and reinsert the battery (if applicable)
- Confirm the battery is not flat
- Check for any LED indication (if available)
Next step?
- Sensor powers on? Go to Step 2
- No power? Replace the battery or sensor
2. Confirm the sensor is activated
What to check:
-
Has the sensor been commissioned or activated?
What to do:
- Verify activation using the AoFrio Field App or installation process
- Confirm the correct device was selected during setup
Next step?
- Activated? Go to Step 3
- Not activated? Complete commissioning process.
3. Check signal strength and placement
What to check:
- Is the sensor within range of the LoRaWAN Gateway?
- Are there physical obstructions (metal panels, compressor units)?
What to do:
- Move closer to the Gateway and check if connection improves
- Reposition the sensor:
- Avoid full metal enclosure zones where possible
- Use recommended mounting positions
Next step?
- Signal improves? Installation positioning issue resolved
- No improvement? Go to Step 4
4. Confirm Gateway connectivity
What to check:
- Is the LoRaWAN Gateway online and connected to the network?
What to do:
- Check Gateway LED status indicators
- Confirm the Gateway is sending data to the AoFrio platform
- Verify other devices are successfully reporting
Next step?
- Gateway is working? Go to Step 5
- Gateway issue continues? Refer to Troubleshooting connection issues for the LoRaWAN Gateway
5. Verify device assignment and configuration
What to check:
-
Is the sensor correctly assigned in the platform?
What to do:
- Confirm the sensor appears in the correct location (site/cooler)
- Check that the device is linked to the correct Gateway
NOTE: Some configuration details are managed at an administrative level. If you are unsure, contact your system administrator or your AoFrio Customer Success Manager.
Next step?
- Configuration is correct? Go to Step 6
- Configuration issue continues? Correct assignment or escalate
6. Check data reporting
What to check:
- Is the sensor sending data?
What to do:
- Review recent data in the platform
- Check last communication timestamp
Next step?
- Data present? Issue resolved
- No data? Go to Step 7
7. Escalate
If the sensor still does not connect, provide the following details to your internal system administrator or AoFrio Customer Success Manager.
- Sensor ID / serial number
- Installation location
- Gateway ID (if available)
- Description of troubleshooting steps completed
